Assurance & Financial Reporting

The right level of reporting for the people who rely on your numbers.

A lender, funder, board, regulator or shareholder may need financial information for a specific purpose. Different users require different levels of reporting and assurance.

We first clarify what the user or agreement actually requires.
We then determine the appropriate engagement.

5

Management reporting

Financial information designed for internal decision-making, such as monthly statements, forecasts, budgets and operating analysis. No assurance report is provided.

5

Choosing the right engagement

The starting point is the actual user requirement – a lender agreement, funding condition, bylaws, shareholder need or management purpose – not a preferred label. We review the requirement and explain the level of work and assurance that matches it.

5

Review engagement

A review consists primarily of inquiry, analysis and discussion and provides limited assurance on the financial statements.

5

Compilation engagement

Financial information is compiled using information provided by management and presented under an agreed basis of accounting. A compilation engagement does not provide assurance.

5

Audit engagement

An audit involves risk assessment, testing and other procedures and provides reasonable assurance that the financial statements are free from material misstatement.

Who We Serve

  • Not-for-profit organizations with board, funder or contractual reporting requirements.
  • Private businesses responding to lender or shareholder requirements.
  • Organizations preparing for growth, financing or governance changes.
  • Management teams that need more disciplined financial reporting.

Engagement Acceptance

Availability depends on the required service, independence, licensing, timing, record quality and overall engagement fit.

Where we provide bookkeeping, controllership or advisory services, we evaluate whether those services can be combined with an assurance engagement and what safeguards or service limitations are required.

FAQ

What is an audit?

An audit involves risk assessment, testing and other procedures, and provides reasonable assurance that the financial statements are free from material misstatement. It is the highest level of assurance a CPA firm provides.

What is a review engagement?

A review consists primarily of inquiry, analysis and discussion, and provides limited assurance. It involves less work than an audit and is often what a lender or funder requires.

What is a compilation?

A compilation, previously called a Notice to Reader, presents financial information provided by management under an agreed basis of accounting. It provides no assurance and is appropriate for many internal and tax purposes.

Which level of reporting do I need?

That depends on who is asking and why. Your loan agreement, funding conditions, bylaws or governing legislation usually specify it. Requests sometimes say “audited” when the underlying document permits a review or compilation, so the wording is worth checking.

Do you work with not-for-profit organizations?

At Business 360.CPA our team can provide audits, reviews and compilations for not-for-profits and charities as well as businesses. We understand the reporting that funders, members and boards rely on, and we plan the timing around your board and funder deadlines.

How can Business360.CPA help?

By confirming what is required, then delivering the appropriate audit, review or compilation through an organized process with clear document requests and timelines. Where reporting is needed for internal decisions rather than an outside user, management reporting may be the better fit.

Who will lead our work, and who will keep us informed?

Your engagement is led by a senior professional who stays involved from planning through to completion. You will have a clear point of contact responsible for delivery and communication, so management and the board know where the work stands, what is needed from you and when to expect results.

Why choose Business360.CPA for assurance work?

Because reliable reporting depends on more than the final statements. We confirm the requirement before quoting, run an organized process and keep management and boards informed throughout. The result is financial statements your lenders, funders and stakeholders can rely on, with fewer surprises along the way.

What does an audit cost?

The cost of an audit depends on the organization’s size, complexity, record quality and whether it has been audited before. First-year engagements involve additional work to establish opening balances. Fees are set once the requirement and scope are confirmed.

How do we get started?

With a short Fit & Scope call about your organization, who relies on your statements and what has been requested. From there, the next step is a Reporting Requirement Assessment, which reads the underlying requirement and determines whether management reporting, a compilation, a review or an audit is the right response.
